THE Ijaw in Edo State have warned against alleged attempts by the PDP in the state to rubbish the name of their sister and wife of the APC, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki.
Prince Collins Eselemo, the Grand Patron of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and the President General of the Coastal Mandate, insisted that Mrs. Obaseki never referred to Edo women as prostitutes in the said interview. “To personalise Mrs. Obaseki’s statement is very unbecoming of a political party like the PDP which at all times derives some joy in being mischievous. For the PDP to go as low as twisting the comment of Mrs. Obaseki, who means well for our girls speaks volume about the kind of politics the party plays. “Trafficking in persons is a criminal act in Nigeria and indeed all over the world. That Mrs. Obaseki is saying something about it shows that she will address it frontally and create opportunities for advancement of our womenfolk when she becomes the first lady of Edo State starting from November 12, 2016,” he said. On her part, Victoria Potoki, a woman leader of the APC, appealed to women in the state not to be bamboozled by what she described as the propaganda of the PDP asserting that “no matter how they try to confuse the people, we will vote for Obaseki our in-law who has been in the fore front of Governor Oshiomhole’s developmental strides.”
