Impeached Kaduna NUJ Chairman allegedly invades secretariat with thugs
KADUNA—Acting Chairman, Kaduna State chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has accused impeached Chairman, Mallam Garba Mohammed, of forcibly breaking into his office and causing tension within the secretariat and its adjoining areas.
A statement by Secretary of the union, Mallam Dauda Idris Doka, said the impeached Chairman attacked the secretariat with thugs, saying the matter had already been reported to the police. The statement read: “It would be recalled that after our congress on September 7, the former Chairman’s many offences were debated upon, leading to his impeachment. “Five of the six executive members passed a vote-of-no-confidence on him, and communicated same to our national headquarters on September 19. The commissioner of police was also served with a copy of the communiqué. “In a show of force, Mallam Garba arrived at the premises of Kaduna Council Secretariat with some armed members and thugs. They were very unruly, and wielded machetes and knives. “They then forced open the office of the acting Chairman, Garba, ransacked the office and left with certain documents, which we are yet to ascertain because he brought in carpenters who changed the locks.” Calls put across to Garba Mohammed by Vanguard for his reaction on the issue were not responded to. Even when a text message was sent to him, he did not respond. At press time, National Vice Chairman, North-West zone, Mallam Idris Yusuf, was meeting with members of Kaduna State NUJ exco.
