Rumour: Fabregas could make Milan loan

The Spain international has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and could make a surprise switch to Serie A for the rest of the season.
Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas could move on loan to AC Milan, according to a report from the Metro.
The Spain international star is not at the forefront of Antonio Conte’s plans at Stamford Bridge and is said to be open to a loan move until the end of the season.
The Serie A outfit will try to profit from this to bolster their creative options in the centre of the field, having already swooped for Mario Pasalic from the Blues late last week.

The highly rated German stopper moves into the next phase of his healing process, but has already been working on his sharpness during sessions at Melwood

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius will have the wire support removed from his right hand on Wednesday as he continues his recovery from the broken bone that robbed him of starting the season.

The £4.7 million summer signing from Mainz is due around another three weeks of rehabilitation, but has been light training to stay sharp.

The 23-year-old has worked on his distribution and anticipation, using his left hand to save shots in the roll drills.

Karius has not been able to partake in the catching or punching exercises yet, although his healing process has been on track.
The German sustained the setback during his side’s 1-0 International Champions Cup defeat to Chelsea in July after colliding with team-mate Dejan Lovren during an attempted clearance.

He underwent a successful operation and vowed not to let a "broken hand stop me from chasing my dreams. It's a long season and we have big plans."

Euro Commission may levy on Apple €13 billion tax retroactively

Following its investigation over Ireland's questionable tax breaks for Apple back in 2014, the European Commission has found out the company to be guilty of receiving "illegal aid". As a result, Apple has to give back the €13 billion it saved over the 2003-2014 period.
The investigation concluded that Apple paid an effective corporate tax rate of 1% on its profits in Europe in 2003, whereas in 2014 the rate was as low as 0.005%. However, Ireland's official corporate tax rate is 12.5%.

EU tax officials have found that whenever someone buys an Apple product in Europe, the Middle East, Africa or India, they're in fact purchasing it from Apple Sales International in Ireland. However, Apple's deal with Ireland allowed it to "avoid taxation on almost all profits generated by sales of Apple products."

Tim Cook has responded to the Commission's ruling in an official statement posted on Apple Ireland's website. Apple's CEO says that the ruling suggests Apple received a special deal on taxation, which has "no basis in fact or in law." Further, he states that with its judgement, the European Commission is interfering with Irish business by replacing Irish policy with its own.

"In Apple’s case, nearly all of our research and development takes place in California, so the vast majority of our profits are taxed in the United States. European companies doing business in the U.S. are taxed according to the same principle. But the Commission is now calling to retroactively change those rules".

Ireland's finance minister, Michael Noonan, expressed his disagreement with the decision stating that "the decision leaves me with no choice but to seek cabinet approval to appeal."

Spurs Make Approach For £35m-Rated Star As Pochettino Lines-Up Triple Swoop

Tottenham have made a move for Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko as Mauricio Pochettino lines-up a late triple swoop in the transfer market

The Argentinean coach has been relatively quiet so far this summer having brought in just two major new signings in Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen but it looks like it’s going to be a busy day in north London tomorrow.

The Telegraph claim that having seen their £12m bid for Wilfried Zaha rejected by Crystal Palace, Tottenham are looking at alternative targets and have now made an approach for Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko.

The 27-year-old has been strongly tipped to leave St James’ Park all summer after starring for France at Euro 2016 but interested clubs have been put off by Newcastle’s inflated £35m valuation.

The newspaper suggests that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy isn’t willing to pay more than £20m for Sissoko and hopes that Newcastle will be forced to lower their asking price during the closing stages of the window as the player is desperate to move back to the Premier League.

We’ll have to wait and see whether that tactic works but Sissoko would be a very useful addition for the north Londoners as with Ryan Mason expected to leave on deadline day and Nabil Bentaleb already sold, Pochettino needs reinforcements in the middle of the park.

Sissoko is more than capable of playing in a central midfield position while he’s also comfortable playing out on the wing if needed meaning the versatile midfielder would give Pochettino plenty of options if he seals a move to White Hart Lane.

PDP leadership tussle: Sheriff remains chairman till 2018 –Ojougboh

Dr Cairo Ojougboh is the deputy national chairman of the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the People Democratic Party, (PDP).  In this interview, the former national vice-chairman, South-south justifies the claim of the former Borno State governor to the office of national chairman of the main opposition party in the country.
Ordinary PDP faithful are worried over the unnerving development in the party.  Senator Sheriff insists he is the legitimate chairman, while Senator Ahmed Makarfi caretaker committee , a creation of the national convention lay claim to the same office. Is there a solution to the leadership impasse?
Yes, of course tAhere is. It is either the political option  is fully and completely exhausted in which case, at the end of the day, the whole party would have been destroyed.
The party destroyed?
Of course! If you follow the legal option— from court of first instance to the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court, it will take at least two, three years, and by that time, we would have lost 2019, or another party would have emerged because if that happens, the party emerging would  be weak, PDP would be weak and APC would be stronger.
So, the way out is very simple: political solution.
So, what is the political solution?
At the Taraba governors’  meeting, I was there at the meeting. At that meeting, at about 3 am, a decision was taken that Sheriff, governor of Bayelsa, Seriake Dickson and Nyesom Wike, the Rivers state governor and Darius Ishaku and Ibrahim Dankwabbo, governors of Taraba and Gombe – five of them should retire, because the meeting  wasn’t making any headway, to retire to a separate room and look at the matter holistically, and come to report to the house.
After two hours, they came out and everybody was happy that they have found a solution. So, the meeting closed to reconvene in the morning because they have planned a stakeholders’ meeting. At the five wise men meeting, Sheriff put forward a proposal; what he put forward which was accepted by everybody, including Governor Wike. It was Wike who said they were going to send for Makarfi and tell him to resign, so that the caretaker committee will bring 10 people, Sheriff will bring 10 people and they will form a common convention committee.
But that has been dismissed as tall demand by the Makarfi team.  They are saying their committee was a creation of the highest organ of the party, the national convention?
Well, we shall know what is the national convention very soon.  So, everybody was happy and we thought a solution has been found. In the morning, against the agreement and everything that was finalized, Makarfi bluntly refused and said he wasn’t going to step down. Sheriff has agreed and that would have been the solution. But of course, you know how power intoxicates and that’s how we lost the opportunity to settle this issue and the court cases continue and of course, by the  Justice Abang’s ruling, it is very explicit.
The man wasn’t speaking with water in his mouth and he put it down in black and white.  That one, Sheriff remains the chairman of the party and two,  that the Port Harcourt court has no right whatsoever to entertain that suit having been aware of two rulings in Lagos and that the Port Harcourt court even admitted that it  was  aware of those two cases in Lagos and then went ahead to sit on it. That it was a total miscarriage of justice, it was impunity personified. It also went ahead to say that whatever the caretaker committee has done is illegal, null and void. This isn’t just a court of coordinate jurisdiction but a court that has initially ruled that it is only Sheriff as the chairman of the party that can submit nominations for Ondo and Edo states. If not for the impunity, how can civilized people, very educated senior citizens hear this pronouncement of court and would still wear their suits and dress up and boast that they are going ahead for the convention! When it has been stated that there is res pendis, which means that nobody should disturb the res, nobody should disturb the situation. In fact, anything the caretaker committee does is illegal, null and void.
If we pursue it to the Court of Appeal, I assure you that the judges,I am not trying to pre-empt them, but I know we have very erudite judges in the Court of Appeal and they have conscience.
Some people have made the observation that Sheriff was nominated to complete the tenure of Adamu Muazu, the erstwhile chairman from North-East; that there was no convention that produced Sheriff as substantive national chairman. How do you react to this?
Now, there are two issues here. The NEC of the party has voted for Sheriff to be chairman and based on the Constitution of the party, that if a chairman resigns or quits office, somebody from that zone will be elected at NEC to continue until the term of the chairman expires. In 2014, when Jonathan was elected, at the party’s convention before that election, there was an election for the chairmanship position that election was to confirm. So, there was an election and from that date, the tenure of the man who was confirmed as chairman is for four years. So, from 2014-2018, is the tenure of Muazu and that’s what Sheriff is supposed to complete.
However, of course as you know, Sheriff was on his own when after he was given three months to go and conduct a convention, he got ready to conduct it, that he would vacate office because he didn’t want to stay. It was the same governors who begged him to come and contest; that the way he has revived the party, that it was astonishing. It was the same governors who came to him that he should contest. He didn’t say no, I wouldn’t contest, my tenure ends in 2015. He bought form, went for screening. So, what is their problem?  Did he say he must leave in 2018? They were the ones who asked him to come, they were the ones who asked him to contest again. He didn’t want to contest. Now, because he refused  to do their bidding, they now said he must go.
They have a predetermined presidential candidate, they have a predetermined chairman of the party that they want. They know what they want to go and do in Port Harcourt.
There was a particular meeting where BoT members walked out on the governors because of Sheriff. How come he is now attributing impunity to the same forces that propped him up?
Very good. Sheriff is agent of change and God doesn’t make mistakes. The God that brought Sheriff brought him for a purpose: to wash away impunity out of PDP, to purify the party, and as change agent, circumstances and conditions bring them up. If God didn’t approve that Sheriff would be chairman, he couldn’t have been chairman, because nothing is possible without God. And the party, the way it is going, it is very clear that God is on the side of Sheriff. That is why we are saying, look, let Sheriff reposition the party, bring in everybody and let us move on. Sheriff isn’t saying I must be chairman. No, he hasn’t said so. So, where has he gone wrong? All my battles in life have been for others, I don’t fight for myself and anytime I see anybody being oppressed, I fight for the person.
But at what point did Sheriff fall out with the governors?
When they went to Port Harcourt, he now made them to understand that there are a lot of problems in all these states, why don’t we look at these problems. Some people annexed some other states. So, he said the party cannot move forward like this. Let us sit down and look at some of these. That was all! They now said Sheriff has said that he was going to look into congresses. That’s where problem started, nothing more. That was his offence. They also said Sheriff promised everybody president. A man who doesn’t even want to be chairman of the party, is he the one looking for the presidency? They just cooked all cock and bull story! He has never told anybody that he wants to be president.
When I heard the rumour, I went to him and confronted him; he said no; that it has never occurred to him.
Look, Dr Raymond Dokpesi that is campaigning around and says he want to be chairman, he went to Sheriff to say he wanted to be chairman and Sheriff told him that the office is in the North now and the governors have said I should contest and I have agreed to contest. He told Dokpesi, why don’t you wait, let us build this party, of course the Vice-president might be going to the South. Why don’t you wait and become the Vice-president? That was Sheriff’s offence.
With the raging crisis, it may truncate your party’s chances in  the forthcoming Edo and Ondo governorship elections.
The Makarfi team is saying your faction is being used to play the spoiler role,  allegedly being used by the ruling party. What is your reaction to this insinuation?
Look, can’t you see that, in the whole of this crisis, what is the position of INEC, what is the position of police. If APC was supporting Sheriff, even with our court judgment, we would have occupied the secretariat. With the court judgment, the police would have opened our office for us.
So, if APC is supporting Sheriff,  of course, we would have gotten all the things we want. But to be honest with you and that’s why I appreciate the president, as  I speak you know that the APC hasn’t interfered in our crisis but even Makarfi has said he doesn’t believe that APC is involved in this matter.  He said so. If he can say that, then why would people now say that it is APC supporting Sheriff? They should be fair to this man; you don’t give a dog a bad name to hang it.

Buhari has no preferred candidate in Ondo -Presidency

The Presidency has assured all 24 aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s primaries in Ondo State,  that President Muhammadu Buhari has no preferred candidate.
This is even as it has warned 10 of the aspirants yet to sign undertaking with the State Security Service to be of good conduct for the elections and to do so before the expiration of the deadline.
This is coming on the heels of  the crisis of confidence rocking the state chapter of the  APC.
Addressing newsmen after a closed door meeting with the aspirants of the party,  the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,  Babachir Lawal, said the discussions were peaceful and fruitful.
He said, “We expect that all the aspirants will work hard to win the votes of delegates. In the tradition of APC, we expect that there will be no inducement of delegates or coercion”, he said.
Lawal also assured of adequate deployment of security operatives for the primaries, warning that government would deal decisively with anyone who breaches the peace.
He urged the aspirants to unite behind whoever emerges as the candidate saying, “soon, Ondo state would become an APC state”.
“We understand that tension is high due to some underlying factors. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has assured the government and we believe them that everything will be done to ensure that elections are free and fair and we know that no official of the party would do anything to give undue advantage to any aspirant over others.
National Secretary of the party, Mai Mala Buni also restated the position of its leadership to providea level-playing field for all aspirants.
He said, “This party is committed to providing free and fair election because the calibre of members that we are sending to conduct this primary election are up to the task”.

APGA promises less tax, end to touts in govt

Standard bearer of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Osaro Onaiwu has promised that his administration would ensure less taxation as against the current multiple taxation being experienced by Edo people.
He also vowed to disband touts (popularly called agbero) operation as way to encourage both large and small scale businesses in the state.
The governorship candidate, who made the promise on Monday while on morning bus ride with co-passengers in the popular ‘Comrade Bus’ in Benin City, said the need to feel the pulse of the people to enable him address their needs promptly if given the mandate prompted him to go on the ride.
Onaiwu said his party, APGA has a well structured and implementable manifesto that centres on employment, agriculture, empowerment, trade, Commerce and Infrastructure.
The former Director-General of Nigeria Governors’ forum and former Special Adviser to ex-governor Samuel Ogbemudia of the defunct Bendel State,  appealed to all eligible voters in the coming election to vote for APGA for good governance, accountability and progress.
Onaiwu, while calling on the electorate to give him the chance to prove good governance, promised not to disappoint Edo people if voted in as governor.

Obaseki’s wife solicits Ijaw votes

Wife of the APC candidate, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, has appealed to her brothers and sisters from the Izon extraction to team up and support her as one of their own, by voting for her husband in the September 10 election.
She said the Izon people as well as the riverine communities in Edo State were supposed to spearhead the campaign for the APC to win the election with the assurance that one of their own will become the first leader and representative.
She disclosed that efforts were on by the state government in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transport, to make the Gelegele sea port a major anchor point for ships and other water transport mobility to come to the area in order to increase the economic activity of the riverine dwellers in Edo State.
The first lady who said she will make the non indigenes in Edo State to matter in the affairs of governance, appealed to all ethnic nationalities to trust her and not give  their votes to the opposition party which, she said was going around propagating lies and falsehood against her husband.
She however thanked the people for their warm reception and encouragement, assuring that their interest will be well protected.

Ize-Iyamu laments neglect of Edo North

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has lamented the neglect of Edo North by the state government in the last eight years, in spite of the fact that Governor Adams Oshiomhole comes from the area.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Ogbona in Etsako Central local government area, he said most pathetic was the absence of a functional public hospital in the senatorial district due to alleged deliberate policy of the outgoing government in the state.
Ize-Iyamu promised that his government would reverse the misfortune inflicted on many communities in the district who were hopeful that having a son of the soil as governor would bring good tidings but got disappointed.
Also speaking at a rally in Okpujie in Owan West local government of the same senatorial district,  the PDP candidate said that Owan people who were very supportive of the outgoing governor were badly treated in the scheme of things.
He promised to upgrade the Uzebba general hospital to a modern standard to enable it take care of the mass population  in the area.
In another rally at Ekpoma, the PDP candidate said: “Ekpoma appears to be going through a rough phase as roads have become dilapidated, there is no development and at the Ambrose Alli University, many of their courses have been de-accredited due to lack of funds by the state government which deliberately wants to remove Ekpoma from the scheme of things.”
Meanwhile, the PDP candidate has asked the international community and especially the US and UK government agencies who are concerned about free, credible and peaceful elections in any part of Nigeria to help the INEC do so on September 10 with the Edo state governorship elections.

Edo Guber Watch: PDP cries out: APC using police against our members

Less than two weeks to the election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the alarm on the persistent use of the Police by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intimidate, unlawfully arrest , detain and torture its members.
The PDP, in a statement issued yesterday by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare, called the attention of the Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria, the international community, religious organizations, traditional rulers, election monitoring committees and all lovers of democracy to the worrisome development.
According to Nehikhare, the tactic of the APC is to break the spirits of its members or to keep them out of circulation until after the election.
“Governor Adams Oshiomhole has instructed the Police to launch a large scale unwarranted arrest and detention of our vibrant youths across the three senatorial districts on the prompting of APC members who have turned to “pointers” for the police, and acting a script.
“In Edo South, many of our youths have had to be creative to evade this type of Gestapo operations.  In some cases, their parents are arrested in their stead and made to pay huge sums of money as bail!
“It is interesting to note that the state governor and leader of the APC in Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was quoted in the media as threatening that members of our party should prepare for more arrests and prosecution.
“While we take this as the desperate stand of the captain of a sinking ship, we want to reassure our dedicated and determined members and teeming supporters that we stand with them in the dark moments of their persecution in the hands of the Police who have obviously become partisan and are being used in an attempt to frustrate an idea which time has come, which is the resolve of Edo people to “change the change” that has brought unimaginable hardship, humiliation, frustration and despondency upon the land.”

Ondo Guber Watch: Ritualists lock APC secretariat

A new drama was yesterday introduced into the crisis rocking the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as various fetish items, traditional cutlasses and palm fronts were placed at the state secretariat of the party in Akure, even as the secretariat was sealed off by a faction of the party.
Daily Sun investigation revealed that the fetish items were placed at the party’s secretariat while yet-to-be-identified persons hanged some on the main gate at the midnight.
The development, which scared many members of the party and prevented them from gaining entrance into the secretariat, also caused fear among residents of Oyemekun area where the party secretariat is located.
Many traders and other shop owners around the APC secretariat could not open their shops due to the development, even as residents scampered for safety when they got wind of the development.
Consequently, the secretariat was locked up and was deserted by members.
Commenting on the development, Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Abayomi Adesanya described the situation as unfortunate, alleging that the ousted chairman, Mr. Isaac Kekemeke, was responsible.
He alleged that Kekemeke, in an attempt to perpetuate himself in office took to fetish means, after his physical efforts had failed. All the organs of the party in the state, including the youth, women wing and members of the national and state assemblies have passed a vote of no confidence in him, yet he wants to remain in office.”
He alleged that Kekemeke resorted to fetish means, having considered his present ordeal as the last battle of his life.
However, he said members of the APC would not be bothered by his actions, stressing: “The secretariat is ours and we shall not be bothered by the rituals placed there. We shall reopen the secretariat at the appropriate time.”
He called on the national leadership to call the ousted chairman to order for peace to return to the party.
Meanwhile, the State Executive Committee (SEC) of Ondo APC has approached the Federal High Court, Abuja to stop Kekemeke from parading himself as the chairman of the party.
Kekemeke was penultimate week sacked from office by the two-third majority of the SEC members.
The SEC members also appointed the Vice Chairman of the party, Mr. Ade Adetimehin as the acting chairman and set up a disciplinary committee to investigate allegations levelled against Kekemeke.
In his reaction, Kekemeke said he had not been served the court order, insisting that he remained the authentic chairman of the party in the state.
The crisis rocking the party had led to the postponement of the governorship primary election on two occasions.
The party had earlier fixed Saturday, August 27 but later shifted it to Wednesday, August 31 and now to Saturday, September 3.
In a related development, the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo has condemned the sacrilegious act carried out at the Ondo State Secretariat of the APC yesterday, describing the action of the APC members as unholy.
The monarch said the attitude of the APC members was against the tradition of the town.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Adeyeye Michael, the monarch stated that carrying out traditional sealing-off of premises remains the prerogative of the Palace.
The statement reads: “The Deji of Akure remains non-partisan and a father to all politicians in his domain and never authorized such.
“Oba Ogunlade frowns at this attitude and wishes to inform the general public that such act did not emanate from the palace.
We wish to inform you that any attempt to desecrate the tradition will be vehemently rebuffed.
“It is certain that those who carried out this condemnable act are not aware of the cultural and traditional implications of this action. The palace is apolitical and therefore should not be dragged into the internal wrangling of any party.
“The palace has sent its emissaries to carry out a thorough investigation of the matter and we are confident that the culprits will be apprehended in no distant time,” the statement added.
He called on the APC executives to unravel the circumstances behind the abominable act, even as he called on security agencies to investigate and bring to book those behind the sacrilegious act so as to serve as deterrent to would-be persons.

Mixed Emotions – Orange Culture S/S 17 Menswear Collection

Being a huge fan of the Orange Culture brand, it is really coming from a good place as I write this review on it’s recently released S/S 17 Collection. Bear with me as I unburden the mixed emotions that flood me as I look at this lookbook. Before this collection was released, the brand took to their Instagram page to tease us and we waited.
When the wait was over, the excitement died just as quickly as it came. The mixed emotions came in form of an up side and what I like to call the other side.

Up Sides
There are a lot of bright sides to this collection like the photography, the prints of the fabrics, and the collaboration with other designers – which lays emphasis on the need for creatives to stick together to grow.

The Other Side
On the other hand, I am left wondering why the models, contrary to the fabrics, look sad and, for a lack of a better word, unhealthy. The vibe they give off in in this shoot wouldn’t move a buyer to pick these pieces. I know the tease calls it “School of Rejects”, but at least rejects bask in their decision not to fit into societal standards.

The styling of this collection makes me wonder if the average man would be able to pull off these outfits as styled in the look book. I believe as individual pieces, they would sell faster than an Etched Journey Tee on sale. There seems to be a lot of effort put into the aesthetics of the look book, and somehow the beauty of the pieces got lost in all the grandeur.
I am no fashion designer (the best I have done, is have someone sketch a design which was then given to a tailor) but I know the finishing to every piece is very important and once you don’t have that, you loose the very essence of creating a minimalist piece. Sadly, not all pieces in this collection can boast of good finishing.
The vibrancy and the prints of this collection warm my heart, and the accessories are to die for. The truth (my truth) is that this would have been a great look book if the details in the little things were paid attention to. If the models were graceful in carrying out the aesthetics of the clothes instead of being posters for the walking dead, they could have sold it a little bit more. The styling was too extra and took so much beauty away from the pieces themselves.
View lookbook below and share your thoughts on the lookbook.
