ELDee Condemns Human Trafficking in African Homes

Nigerian-American rapper turned IT Consultant Olanrewaju Dabiri, popularly known as Eldee has condemned what he describes as “other forms of slavery” that exists in Africa and beyond the continent. Following the recent news about the thriving slave trade of African migrants in Libya, eLDee has come out to air his own views on the issue, saying that we need to inspect all the ways in which we enslave others.
eLDee called out everyone for only making a statement about an issue when it is convenient.
The other forms of slavery he mentioned were child labour, underpayment of the house helps from different African countries who work like slaves from dusk until dawn only to make N10,000 a month, declaring that they must be put to a stop.
In a series of tweets he posted, he made it clear that everyone who had ever paid for a maid was just as guilty as the slave trader in Libya.

Internet records 900% growth over a decade

The last 17 years have been very eventful for the Internet economy, growing nearly 900 per cent from 400 million in 2000 to 3.5 billion users as at today. As such, the Internet has had an unprecedented impact on the economy and societies around the globe.

The Internet Society, which gave this statistics, noted that the Internet is no longer just the home of email, static webpages and discussion boards; today’s Internet is so much more. It now a dynamic space for collaboration, commerce and expression.

According to it, video currently accounts for more than two-thirds of all Internet traffic in the world, and people accessing the Internet via a mobile device now outnumber those connecting from a computer. The Internet has changed political systems, revolutionized business, and reshaped communities worldwide.
In spite of all this dynamism, certain properties of the Internet persist. These properties, which are called invariants, have been the foundation for the Internet since its earliest days. At the same time, it is because of these invariants that the Internet has become such a dynamic resource. These technical properties are at the heart of the Internet’s success — they provide users with the ability to fully benefit from the Internet.

These invariants include global reach, general purpose, accessibility, interoperability, collaboration, supports for innovation without permission, among others. Internet penetration and usage varies widely across the world. For instance, in Africa, urban areas generally have higher penetration rates than rural areas do. As of 2017, 388 million of the continent’s 1.25 billion people are online, with 160 million holding Facebook accounts. Out of the 388 million users, Nigeria accounted for 91.5 million with Kenya following with 44 million people on the Internet. The African region is still adjudged as continent with the slowest growth.

However, For Africans to benefit from the opportunities the Internet has provided, the Internet Society believed that there was need for governments in the region to know what these opportunities are and ensure that they remove the hurdles that stop countries and citizens from benefiting from them.

Africa Region Bureau Director for the Internet Society, Dawit Bekele, believes that with right policies the continent can benefit immensely from the Internet economy. Bekele said Africa needed a secure and reliable Internet infrastructure that users trust in order to bring large and small businesses online, along with governments and other social services.

He explained that the Internet Society in collaboration with the African Union (AU) recently introduced Internet Infrastructure Security Guidelines for Africa to help AU member states strengthen the security of their local Internet infrastructure through actions at a regional, national, ISP/operator and organizational level.

According to him, in Kenya, the Internet economy already represents 3.6 per cent of the country’s GDP and in other developing countries 1.3 per cent of GDP comes from the Internet economy. He said the McKinsey Global Institute predicted that in addition to contributions to GDP, the Internet will deliver productivity gains across Africa.
These productivity gains, according to him, are across six key sectors: financial services, education, health, retail, agriculture and government are projected to be valued at between $148billion and $318billion by 2025.However, he noted that a thriving Internet economy in Africa could be put at risk by the increasing number of Internet shutdowns in the region.

He revealed that in 2016 alone, there were at least 56 shutdowns of the Internet around the world. “These shutdowns affect individuals and organisations that depend on the Internet for their daily lives, and have negative effects on the economy.

To get that Hot Post Baby Body, Here's an advice...

Giving birth to a child is one of the most amazing things that could ever happen to a woman. On the other hand, getting your body back in shape after childbirth is a harrowing task many never succeed at. We see out celebrities with amazing post-baby bodies do you ever wonder how they do it.
If you do, then you are not alone. Women who have gone through the process of bringing a child into the world will quickly tell you that fighting the added weight is very difficult. The secret to how others get back in shape in no time is not so secret after all and it has only a little to do with how much care they can afford.
An average woman may not be able to pay for nannies, personal chef, nutritionist, personal trainer and the works, but there are simple things you can do that will work like magic.
Consistently doing these 4 things will help you get your body back in no time

1. Don’t be afraid to sweat

There is no escaping it, exercise is the number one secret celebrities use to get back in shape after childbirth. You might not be able to afford a personal trainer or even to register with a gym but right in your home, you can come up with a schedule for your work outs. Wait for your doctor to give you the go ahead first; usually you can start exercising 6 weeks postpartum. If you are also currently pregnant, keep moving. There are loads of exercise tutorials to this effect online; take advantage of them.

2. Always eat healthy

You don’t need a doctor or a nutritionist to tell you that fruits in place of pastry are better for your body. While you work on exercising to get your body back, the kind of food you eat will determine how much progress you will make. Drinking lots of water, cutting down on carbohydrates and opting for more protein right from your pregnancy stage till after birth will put your body in a better condition to snap back. Creating good food habits while pregnant makes it easier for you to follow through after giving birth.

3.  Take time-off for yourself

Don’t be alarmed, we are not saying you should leave your baby and take off. Taking time-off for yourself to rest and relax means you accept all the help you can get and make use of it. You might not be able to afford a nanny or housekeeper to do things in your stead but think of family members who will be willing to take care of things while you take a nap every now and then. Some of these times should be spent in the company of your significant other as well. It will help you bond better and just enjoy parenthood.

4. Dress strategically

Your outfits can cover up a lot while you try to get back that hot body. Even without a stylist, picking outfits that will flatter your post-baby body can give the illusion of a hot one. Upgrading your wardrobe a bit might be necessary here and make sure you go for pieces you feel confident in. Feeling good in what you have on will help you pay less attention to the ‘flabby bits’. Also remember that nothing looks sexier on a woman than her confidence.

‘Despacito’ Wins Big at Latin Grammys

‘Despacito,’  the viral dance hit that swept past borders, won big Thursday at the Latin Grammys where singer Luis Fonsi announced a new frontier for the song — the Chinese-speaking world.
“Despacito” won four awards including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, which recognizes writing, in the year’s biggest night for Spanish- and Portuguese-language music.
The infectious reggaeton tune, which Fonsi sings with a rap assist from fellow Puerto Rican Daddy Yankee, was already a global hit when a remix featuring Justin Bieber brought it into the US mainstream.
“Despacito” became the most-watched video ever on YouTube and tied for most weeks on number one of the US singles chart — a feat all the more impressive considering how few non-English songs fare well in the world’s largest music market.
“It’s been a beautiful year. Twelve or 11 months of hard work representing our language in the entire world and enjoying a song that, thanks to Latin audiences and many beyond, has become so influential and has united the entire world and broken language barriers,” Fonsi told reporters at the gala in Las Vegas.
Fonsi is not done with “Despacito.” He announced he will launch a new version in two weeks with Singaporean singer and producer JJ Lin, a star in Mandarin-language pop.
“I sang a little bit in Mandarin. The song has become a worldwide phenomenon and singing it in Mandarin is an honour,” said Fonsi, who will tour Asia next year.
After working with Bieber, Fonsi has a collaboration ready with another North American star — “Echame La Culpa” (“Blame Me”), a new song that comes out Friday featuring Demi Lovato.
Fonsi described “Despacito” as an “ode to Puerto Rico” — ravaged in September by Hurricane Maria — and thanked Daddy Yankee, who was noticeably absent from the Latin Grammys.

Daddy Yankee recently told Puerto Rican newspaper, El Nuevo Dia, that he no longer wanted to perform “Despacito,” explaining, “Songs have their moment and they have to evolve.”
Fonsi denied any rift, saying both Daddy Yankee and Bieber: “They are my brothers and without them, I would not have achieved this.”
Panamanian singer Erika Ender, a co-writer of “Despacito,” found a more political meaning to the song which triumphed in the United States just after Donald Trump won the US presidential election after campaigning to get tough against immigration.
“This is a song that can break any type of barriers or walls,” she said, in a clear allusion to Trump’s pledge to build a wall on the Mexican border.

The Highest Paid Celebrities Under 30

Forbes has released the list of the highest paid celebrities under the age of 30.
Topping the chart is 27-year-old Abel Tesfaye, popularly known as ‘The Weeknd’, who started releasing free mix tapes in 2010 under his mysterious moniker. He earned $92 million in the year leading to June 1, 2017, before taxes and fees. The Weeknd ranked sixth on the FORBES Celebrity list of 100 highest-paid celebrities in the world.

Despite clocking 3.2 billion streams in the scoring period, most of his earnings came from an estimated $75 million touring advance.
In second place is 23-year-old Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, who made the Celebrity 100 list with $53 million. He earned a whopping sum of $83.5 million.

Next in the top three is 29-year-old British singer Adele whose album 25 was the bestselling album of 2016 with 1.73 million copies sold out.

Combined, the 30 highest-paid celebrities under 30 earned $1.24 billion combined before management fees and taxes between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017.
The ranks of the highest-paid celebrities under 30 are notably diverse with 50% non-white list members, likely due to the high number of athletes. According to the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport, 74.4% of NBA players identify as either African-American or black while African-American players comprise 69.7% of the NFL.
Asides from Adele and Jenner, only three women made the list. Twenty-seven-year-old pop star Taylor Swift ranks ninth with $44 million. Rihanna (No. 15) and Emma Stone (No. 29), both 29, earned $36 million and $26 million respectively. Stone is also the world’s highest-paid film actress. Though this is partly due to the preponderance of professional athletes, the overall list of the world’s highest-paid celebrities is highly imbalanced as well with 84% male list members.

State Policies are frustrating ICT expansion

Stakeholders in the telecommunications sector are worried about the negative attitude of some state governments toward the expansion of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure in their respective states.
They declared that states’ unfriendly policies are seriously hindering operators from either expanding existing infrastructure or rolling out of new ones. The stakeholders, made this known at the Telecom Executives and Regulator Forum, organized by the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), with the theme: “Removing Barriers to Growth and Innovation”, jointly called for the urgent intervention of the Federal Government.
According to them, issue of multiple taxation; exorbitant Right of Way (RoW) levies; non-adherence to agreement; multiple regulations, vandalism, among others have posed serious hindrances to network expansion.
They feared that, should these problems linger beyond 2017, meeting the 2018 broadband target of 30 per cent may be a mirage, though penetration is currently at 21 per cent.
Though, the Federal Government said it aimed accelerating the country’s industrialization efforts by installing 18,000km of fibre optic cable across the country to improve broadband penetration, telecoms stakeholders, who appreciated this effort, however, stressed that until those identified bottlenecks are removed, the efforts may not really amount to anything substantive, especially looking at some states’ attitude towards telecoms operators.
The Vice President, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, 9mobile, Ibrahim Dikko, said government must see the National Broadband Plan (NBP) as something for the nation, not just for the operators. He revealed that operators are not expanding because state governments’ agencies see telecoms operators as ‘cash cows’.
Dikko lamented that there had been an agreement between the operators and state governments on the amount to be charged per meter for RoW, which was N145/m, “but as we speak, only five states adhered to that agreement. Majority of the states now charge as much as N5000 per meter. How will an operator cope, especially one, which had the intention of expanding services across a particular state?”
The 9mobile chief also hinted that currently some states want telecoms operators to pay land use charge, “operators should not be seen as a means to make money.”
From his perspective, the Director, External Affairs, nTel, Osondu Nwokoro, to meet the broadband target, all arms of government must synergize, saying the 18,000km fibre capacity can only complement what the operators had on ground.
Nwokoro said Federal Government needs to intervene in the challenges facing the ICT/Telecoms sector, saying the proposed 18,000km fibre cable cannot give Nigeria 30 per cent broadband target, “efforts of the operators must be considered and complimented.”
Corroborating earlier claims, Chief Executive Officer, Medallion Communications, Ikechukwu Nnamani, said states are not aware of the need to have a vibrant ICT infrastructure. “The state authorities don’t know what ICT can bequeath them,” he stated.
While appealing to the Federal Government to intervene, Nnamani stressed the fact that lack of finance has hindered so many operators from expanding and rolling out of new services.
There is need for infrastructure bank. The economic situation in the country has made it difficult to race finance for infrastructure development in the telecoms sector. With adequate finance, the country can reach 50 per cent broadband penetration by next year. Meeting the 2018 target requires so many things. According to Osondu, penetration is one, demand is another and infrastructure is another critical issue.
Osondu wants NCC to play some major roles, which include expediting actions on National WiFi project (Hot spots), adding that frequency is critical, opening the WiFi sub-sector of the market should be a task that must be achieved.
On his part, the President of ATCON, Olusola Teniola, believed that government support has become so critical in moving the sector forward. As such, he stressed that government can support the sector in the area of spectrum management, saying that government agencies should not see telecoms operators as people they can just latch on the make quick money.

“He is just that kind of artist. If you check his music right now, you can see the difference. You can’t compare his music right now to Plantashun Boiz music. It’s nowhere close. Melody wise, music wise, sound wise, he is nowhere close.”
The feud between the two former bandmates has dragged on for a long time, with Blackface constantly dissing 2baba and accusing him of stealing his song and killing his career.

Show your brother love. He needs you because na Blackface bring you; na him form the Plantashun Boiz. Na Blackface na him write most of the songs. That enough is for you to use your head and say omo na my brother be this. No matter how it is, I have to keep it real.”

Basically, he called 2baba a two-faced individual who was living a double fake life and cared about no one, even neglecting his friend when he needed him the most

New Ad by Samsung Ridicules IPhones

We are all familiar with the Samsung vs. Apple war.
The battle has raged for years between the companies and even among their fans.
Samsung has never been afraid to take shots at their rival Apple and this has given them a long history in and out of court.
Although it’s been a while since Samsung attacked their rival directly, especially after the exploding Galaxy Note 7 was the source of many memes, this commercial came just in time for the release of the much-anticipated iPhone X.
The new advertisement plays heavily on the war between the two firms
In the ad, Samsung ridicules iPhones for running out of space thanks to Apple’s use of 16GB of storage, showing the Galaxy Note 3 with its 5.5-inch display and Apple’s much smaller 4-inch panel for the iPhone 5S.
Samsung mocks Apple and its fans that line up outside stores to get the latest iPhone.
Its Galaxy series has a waterproof feature while an iPhone sits in a bowl of rice. Add that to the ridiculous iPhone dongle its users need to be able to charge and listen to music at the same time.
Samsung’s commercial, tagged “Growing Up”, sees an iPhone addict switch to a Galaxy Note 8 instead of queueing for the new iPhone X.
Basically, the ad’s theme is focused on Samsung always being a step ahead of Apple in terms of hardware, and it has given its fans extra ammunition to use during debates.

Davido’s Lagos Concert, this December

It’s been five years since the musical sensation Davido released his debut album O.B.O, and also headlined his first concert.
We were enamoured by this first body of work, with favourites from “Bless Me” to the more popular “Dami Duro”, and it was a shame that his second, Son Of Mercy didn’t quite match up. Regardless, Davido has managed to maintain his position on top by releasing hit after hit, such as “Skelewu”, “Aye”, “Gobe” and the more recent favourite “If”.
His collaborations with several acclaimed international musicians such as Meek Mill and Wale also helped widen his reach and audience. He has also ventured into the fashion industry with the latest collaboration with Orange Culture, making moves that have earned him G.O.A.T status.
Since June, we have watched the artist take his recent tour 30 Billion World Tour all over the globe from neighbouring countries like Djibouti and Ivory Coast to faraway lands like Helsinki and Mali. Now, this tour is coming home to Lagos this Christmas, and will be the first concert Davido has held here since his debut album release five years ago!
The singer announced the tour on his Instagram account saying:
“It’s been a crazy year for me on so many levels and we are just kicking off! We said we were going back to basics and that’s exactly we are doing; my first headline show in Lagos in five years!! We’ve toured the world this year it’s only right we end it all in my home town – Lagos! It’s going to be crazy! Get ready, December 27th is going to be on a different level!”
With Mayorkun’s concert, Mayor Of Lagos , Simi’s concert, See Me Live and many other exciting events over the festive period, Christmas ’17 is already looking to be quite litty! We wonder which other artists we will see live in the Lagos leg of 30 Billion Tour!
